Portugal will be exhibiting at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), that will take place at Farnborough Airport (UK), between the 18th and 22nd July. idD Portugal Defence and AED Cluster Portugal are the organisers of the National stand [Stand No: 1160], as well as responsible for promoting the Portuguese participating companies, in collaboration with aicep Portugal Global – Trade & Investment Agency, that is hosting a networking event in the first day at the stand.
The attendance of the Secretary of State for Defence, Marco Capitão Ferreira, as well as officials from other institutions, are expected in the National stand of Portugal on the 18th July, between 13:30 and 15:30.
FIA is one of the most important global events for the aerospace and defence industries. With approximately 20 Portuguese companies exhibiting, the participation at this event will be the largest since the return of post pandemic in person events. The exhibitors include OGMA, one of the main Portuguese companies within the aeronautical and defence sectors, as well as the consortium Invest in Alentejo, represented by the Alentejo Regional Development Agency (ADRAL) and the Municipality of Ponte de Sor, whose aims are the promotion of the aeronautical sector and the attraction of investment into the Alentejo region.
The Managing Director of AED Cluster Portugal, Rui Santos, confirms: “this is a major event and will have a larger impact this year. After a break of four years, FIA has returned to an “in person event”, uniting partners throughout the world and allowing an increase & business recovery. This is a strategic opportunity to witness the latest developments of the sector, strengthen links with various international players and show that Portugal is committed to remain at the forefront of the industries innovations”.
The Board President of idD Portugal Defence, Catarina Nunes, states: “from among more than 400 entities that make up the Defence Technological and Industrial Base, the revenue generated from those within the aerospace sector reached a value of 1.44 billion euros, representing almost a third of the total revenue for National defence, in 2020. It is, therefore, a dynamic sector, with a potential to increase, having already registered interest from various multinationals of the sector to invest in Portugal”.
During FIA, idD Portugal Defence will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the British association ADS Group promoting cooperation and aiming to create business opportunities between the entities that are part of the defence industry of both countries.
