The AED Cluster Portugal and Airbus Defence and Space have presented a White Paper identifying potential economic, industrial and technological benefits for Portugal associated with a possible acquisition of the Eurofighter Typhoon. The document is the result of work carried out under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2025.
This White Paper sets out the proposal for industrial cooperation that Airbus Defence and Space intends to implement should the Portuguese Government opt for the Eurofighter Typhoon to modernise its fighter aircraft fleet. The proposal provides for the integration of Portuguese companies into international supply chains and the development of industrial and technological capabilities in the country over a period of 40 years.
Opportunities for Portuguese industry
According to the proposal put forward, Airbus Defence and Space expects to double the volume of procurement from national suppliers should Portugal acquire the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The document also identifies opportunities for Portuguese industry in areas such as high-value manufacturing, software development and maintenance, cyber security, and aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). The transfer of knowledge and technology, and the development of research and development capabilities, are also part of the proposal.
These measures, should they be implemented, could strengthen the participation of Portuguese companies in defence value chains and contribute to the growth of national industrial and technological capabilities.

The presentation of the White Paper builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2025 by AED Cluster Portugal and Airbus Defence and Space. The document provides further detail on the areas of industrial cooperation under consideration in the context of a potential acquisition of the Eurofighter Typhoon.
